Ep 18: Listener Unappreciation

26 Aug

For this week, we decided to try out a call-in show. We opened up the Skype, hung out the virtual shingle, and waited around for calls. While we were waiting, my lil daughter came on down into the studio with us and got some mike time in. Shameless ratings grab!

Need yourself a plugged tire? We know where one is!

Listener Jeff G called in to tell us about his awesome long trips and his site: mototourers.com Sounds like him and his buddy have got a lot more planned for themselves. God help them if they really do it on Urals!

This is the brace we were talking to Brian about: Leatt STX Brace Is it worth it? Everyone makes their own call on this one. We’d be really interested in hearing from anyone that gets one!

From our listener email, first here’s the site to those dynamic-armor using jeans: http://www.kyrano-uk.com from Markus.

And here’s the video Franca pointed us to.

You’ll find that hilarious mini-van driver comment in there. Our attention was drawn to how many of these crashes this one guy seems to be capturing. I think we might have some talking to with this cameraman down the road coming… shameless plug.

Speaking of shameless, we got some winners on the Adventure Snack challenge! I didn’t think people were really going to do it, but shows what I know about how far some folks will go just to see us suffer. First up, is Chad:

Now, I don’t think Chad’s actually doing the Adventure Challenge. I think he’s getting himself a date. Way to lawyer your way in there, Chad!

A much better entry comes from Bryon!

Bryon’s got his bases covered. He’s on a Beemer, he’s got a modular helm, a ‘LOOK AT ME ADVENTURE’ jacket, and a Hardcore Milkbone. How do I know that last one? Cuz he followed up with:

“HARDCORE. I AM IT.”

Check out after the jump to see what we decided was the winner of this… and the promised followup.

Ep 18: Teaser

24 Aug

I’m so getting into trouble with my wife if she hears this week’s show!

Ep 17: So Many Bananas

19 Aug

The Wheelnerds go bananas(er?) this week as we talk to Ryan aka Halfthrottle of youtube semi-fame.  We also check out a video with an incidental motorcycle, and give Touratech a bit more hell.

Incidental Motorcycle Video: http://vimeo.com/26653412

Ryan’s heavily commented and controversial “Honest Harley” commercial.

Far from just a smart-ass, Ryan also makes a whole series of fun, exciting, and entertaining adventure videos.

Ok maybe he’s still a bit of a smartass, but he does some no-bullshit adventure riding, hundreds of miles from any starbucks. We’re totally in the “guy on the horse” fan club.

BANANAS!

Todd wrote a book! We can’t stress enough that this book is full of profanity, motorcycles, and guns. It pretty much does what it says on the tin, so if you like those three things you’ll like the book. Todd secretly dreams of making it into an animated movie or series some day.
The Ballad of Jack Bastard

Don’t forget about our official Wheelnerds Disorganized Unpaid Correspondent Program. Basically, we want to hear some stuff from you! Ridden a bike (like your own) and got an opinion? Got a cool piece of gear or farkle? Got a story? Know some jokes? Record an MP3 (or whatever) and email it to us at wheelnerds@gmail.com. We’ll throw it on the air and talk about it, too. That’s right, you can be the first on your block to be openly mocked by the Wheelnerds. Alternatively, you could call our google talk # to the right there and leave us a message if you’ve got no way to record something. Or, even cooler, (to me, anyway), you can now also leave us a voicemail via Skype! Our skype ID is wheelnerds. Just go ahead, call, and leave us your story there! (We still read your emails, too, and will answer them on the show). If you got something really cool, shoot us a line and maybe we’ll talk to you live, too.

As always, you can listen to the episode above or download direct here:

Ep 17 Preview

17 Aug

We have an in-studio guest this week and he’s here to talk about YouTube and… stuff!

Talk to us tonight!

16 Aug

We’ll be recording a show tonight starting around 7:30 PM to 9 PM MST. We’ll have Skype up and be answering calls. Skype ID: wheelnerds

Episode 16 – Kilogram of Silver

11 Aug

Wait, is this thing on, what happened I am not good at computer!

Chuck went camping (bastard) so this week’s post comes from Todd.  Technical troubles are entirely Chuck’s fault due to leaving Todd alone with sophisticated electronic devices.

We take you on a chilling trip through the local classifieds this week.    This episode may not be suitable for children, the elderly or infirm, or people who are offended by the word “Veguero.”

Select Ads we opted to post that are still valid as of late thursday night:

The Kickboxer Diesel

The Nicest Virago you have ever seen

Mararar

We regret that the PS3 and TV, the framing tools, the backed over machine, and the much sought after Veguero have been sold or taken down.

Fortunately the silver is still available and might not be a trap.

Preview? We don’t need no stinkin preview!

10 Aug

Yeah, we’re running behind on that.. but hey, here’s a not so interesting shakycam video of Todd’s head! This is the HERO footage of some of our Doomed Trip from Hell that we’ve talked about previously! The Strom and Uly take on… some roads. And stuff.

Two dudes on a motorcycle!

6 Aug

Sure, there’s a hottie in the preview, but don’t let that fool you! One of my favorites…

Ep 15: Garage Bland

5 Aug

This week’s show is sort of a odd one. We originally tried to do the whole thing via Skype as I was in San Diego and Todd was here in Utah. After listening to the results of that show, we promptly decided to re-record it as soon as I got back to Utah and did a quick pick-up show. You’ll get to hear both here. Spoiler alert: we’re lousy at talking over Skype and have new respect for the guys at the Pace. And a new respect for everyone so far that’s come on the show and tried to talk to us via Skype.

Here’s the link to Angie Larsen‘s page. She’s the news correspondent who took the training class as part of a story and then promptly used her hypno-eyes to get more viewers for her channel…

“you’re geting… sleeeeppyyy…”

The cool ass windshields we talk about this time around are from California Scientific, makers of fine shields and neural network software… Definitely your one-stop shopping. Both Todd and I frankenstein the Cal-Sci shields onto the Madstad Engineering brackets. We both give the combo the thumbs-up for function.

We talk trailers this week a bit. First, we mention the GO trailer from Sylvan Sport. Not something either one of us would have a whole lot of use for, but it looks sort of spiffy and definitely has a niche in mind. Far more interesting to us are the motorcycle-geared trailers from Open Road Outfitters. Go check out the camping trailers, cuz wow. We want to talk to these guys about them. It looks pretty cool if you want a camping trailer for your bike adventure.

Finally, here’s a link to Ben Slavin’s Columbia Tour Kickstarter Project. Help finance a pretty cool riding documentary from a dude that’s proven he can do it and is clearly passionate on the subject. Really really support it and get to go on the ride and be in the documentary. That’s way cool. Better yet. Send me on it in your place. I’ll be your best friend.

Ep 15 promo…

Sorry so late, but it’s been a week. Anyway, here’s how we prepare to do a show. And… it’s a good representation of how we are off the air…
